Who is here

The Granny Dating Australia Community

Australian men and women over 50, arriving from very different places and looking for different things. This page is about what the people here are actually like and what is expected of them.

Who is actually here

Older Australian women, in their fifties, sixties and seventies, and men who are mostly a good deal younger and are here because that is what they are looking for. There are more men than women, and we say so on every page rather than only where it flatters us. Most are in New South Wales, Victoria or Queensland, and a good number are elsewhere in smaller numbers.

People arrive from very different places. Widowed. Separated after a long marriage. On their own for a decade and used to it. Never married. Somebody who has been on three of these sites already, and somebody who has not dated since before the internet. All of that is ordinary here.

Granny Dating Australia has over 350 members across Australia, most of them aged 45 and over.

What people are looking for

Different things, and it is worth saying which you are. Some people here want sex and put that on their profile. Some want company first, and dinner, and to see how it goes. Some want somebody to travel with and are clear they are not looking for anything physical.

None of those is the default and none of them needs an apology. The only real mistake is leaving it unsaid, because then the first several conversations are spent finding out and most of them end awkwardly.

What is expected of people here

Say what you want on your profile, not in a first message. The profile is where somebody can read it and decide. A first message is not the place to make a demand somebody did not ask for.

A no is an answer. Not a starting position. Somebody who argues after a polite no has told you everything you need, early, which is the useful part.

Nobody is entitled to photographs. Asking is one thing, asking twice is another, and sending one nobody asked for ends the conversation.

Nobody is a category. The people here are individuals in their fifties, sixties and seventies who joined for their own reasons. Writing to somebody as though they are a type is the fastest way to be ignored on this site.

Discretion is normal. Plenty of members keep this to themselves, and plenty have adult children, a small town or a working reputation in the background. That is not something to press on.

How to be part of it

When somebody behaves badly

Block them, and report them. Blocking stops them reaching you and needs no explanation. A report is read by a person, and you do not need to be certain before making one.

The two things that go wrong most often are somebody asking for money and somebody pushing to move off the site straight away. Both are covered properly on our safety page, with Australian sources, and both are worth acting on the moment you see them.

Member stories

There are none on this site. We have not collected verified stories from members, and we are not willing to write invented ones and present them as real, which is common practice in this category. If we ever publish any, they will be real, they will be published with permission, and they will be identifiable as such.

Where to read next

Dating for women over 50 and dating over 60 are the two pages written to the people most likely to be weighing this up, and dating older women is the one written to the men about how to behave.

Common questions

Do I need to have dated online before?

No. A good share of people here have not dated at all since before any of this existed. Saying so is normal and nobody will think less of you for it.

Is everybody here looking for the same thing?

No. Some people want sex and say so. Some want company first. Some want a companion to travel with and nothing physical at all. None of those is the default.

Are there member stories on this site?

No. We have not collected verified stories from members and we are not prepared to invent them. If we ever publish any they will be real and identifiable as such.

What happens if somebody behaves badly?

Block them and report them. A report is read by a person, and you do not need to be certain or to justify making one.
